Water conservation is working and so LA county is being permitted to water 3x vs. 2x a week. Very Cool. Just don't forget the No More Geyers =).

Under current rules, residents may switch sprinklers on for only 15 minutes a day on Mondays and Thursdays, always before 9 a.m. or after 4 p.m. to limit evaporation. The new proposal would allow 8-minute irrigation cycles three times a week, also before 9 a.m. and after 4 p.m.

Hemet, CA- The Metropolitan Water District is hosting the Global Water & Technology Forum. Chris Eader is showcasing with some other incredible green technology innovations. Municipalities, consultants, investors are in attendance to network with up and coming projects and inventors.

At this moment Chris is in meetings where inventors are meeting with investors that are green minded.

What's unique about this show is that Chris's original pitch was, "I bet you've never seen this?" and now that No More Geysers is starting to make the rounds in the Green Community. People are coming up and now saying, "Hey, I've seen this. 

We're also starting to see some usual suspects as well. The Air Pear guys are here as well as WaterSmart Technologies with Ken Wright is also here at the show.

We should be posting the video from Green CA which has interviews with both shortly.

I couldn't agree more. When we attended last year It was an eye opening experience. There is a several sections dedicated to new projects an inventors. But so many of successful projects are small businesses that have small teams that have been able to get a project into distribution.

So many inventors just want to come up with an idea. The reality is that the idea, the patent is only part of the process. Just walk around the national hardware show and ask some of these inventors what they've spent on tooling, marketing distribution it's a reality check but in a GOOD WAY!

Los Angeles has grown by about a million people in the last three decades, but you wouldn't   know it from the way water has been trickling out of taps and sprinklers.The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power reported Monday that water usage in the city reached a 31-year low for the month of February, dropping more than 20% compared with the same period in 2007.Officials tied the decrease to water rationing that went into effect in 2007. The rationing was prompted by the ongoing regional drought. The best conservers were residents of single-family homes, who used nearly 30% less water as compared with February 1997. In all, Angelenos cut their water use by nearly 30 billion gallons in the last nine months, enough to supply the cities of Long Beach and Santa Monica combined. "These are efforts that are compounding on each other, and it's been very successful," said Jim McDaniel, head of city water operations. "What we're hoping is that people are learning to live with these wiser water habits in a way that hopefully doesn't negatively impact their lifestyle."Recent winter rains probably factor into the reduced demand for water, McDaniel acknowledged, but he pointed to ongoing evidence that the city's water conservation program has cut away at consumption at an impressive clip.Demand for water last June, for instance, reached a 32-year low. DWP regulations, which limit days of the week, hours of the day and duration of watering, have been criticized for causing brown lawns and thirsty gardens.The regulations also may have inadvertently led to the high number of water main breaks last year. A report issued Tuesday blamed the strict water conservation policy, in part, for the rash of breaks, saying the city's aging pipes could not handle the fluctuations in pressure. The new figures show that water-saving rules have taken hold even in winter. In the past, the utility has had trouble getting people to turn off timers on their sprinkler systems, even during rain. The reminders may have finally sunk in, McDaniel said.With water supplies, reservoir levels and snowpack still less than adequate, DWP officials cautioned customers that they will continue to be asked to conserve."We're by no means out of the woods," McDaniel said. No More Geysers Attends Government Small Business Workshop

On Friday, February 19, Chris Eader, CEO of No More Geysers, attended the Government Small Business Procurement Outreach Workshop at Santee City Hall.  The day-long workshop was organized by the San Diego Contracting Opportunities Center (SDCOC) and was hosted by the City of Santee and Santee Chamber of Commerce.  Among the presenters were representatives from the U.S. Navy SPAWAR facility, the San Diego County Government, the San Diego Water Authority, and the Small Business Administration.

The goal of the workshop was to provide small business owners with the information needed to successfully compete for contracts with government agencies.  Presentations covered everything from the best ways to approach an agency to the proper use of technical and government terminology.  Just as important as the presentations were the networking sessions when business owners had time to share ideas and information, as well as speaking face-to-face with government representatives.

Chris Eader was very satisfied with the day, particularly because he was able to speak directly with several representatives about the no More Geysers Riser.  Eader had the chance to explain the features of the riser and its ability to save water, protect landscaping, and lower the chances of accidents due to water runoff to those decision makers in a position to influence purchase decisions.  It is quite likely that the No More Geysers Riser will be in use soon by a number of Southern California agencies.

Chris Eader, CEO of No More Geysers, will attend the Government Small Business Procurement Outreach Workshop presented by the San Diego Contracting Opportunities Center (SDCOC) and Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC).  The Workshop is being held at Santee City Hall and is being hosted by the City of Santee, the Santee Chamber of Commerce, and the San Diego County Water Authority.

The goal of the workshop is to assist small and disadvantaged businesses that are interested in bidding for government agency contracts.  Speakers will discuss the process involved in applying, completing necessary paperwork, and working with these agencies in order to do business with them.  Among the government agencies scheduled to attend are the U.S. Navy, Metropolitan Water District, CALTRANS, SANDAG, and the County of San Diego.  Also scheduled to attend are the U.S. Small Business Association, Small Business Development Center, and SCORE.

The keynote speaker at the workshop will be Congressman Duncan D. January Rains Bring Help to Farmers in California

Even though the water situation in California, and much of the West, has not returned to "normal" yet, the January rains did bring a measure of relief to the region.  According to an article in the Daily Democrat, Yolo County farmers are hopeful that the coming growing season will be more productive than last year's.  Already the storms have delivered more rain since July 2009 than normal, and over twice as much as this time last year.

Currently reservoirs are at the same level as at the end of the rainy season last year, with more expected in the near future.  Although it is still too early to make final decisions, many farmers are hoping to plant more land with higher value crops.  But overall the drought that has plagued the West for several years is still a concern, so water conservation is still important.  One way to conserve water is by retrofitting your sprinklers with the No More Geysers Riser to prevent flooding and water waste from broken sprinklers.

"Unquenchable" Water Crisis Interview

Recently Nursery Management & Production, a nursery industry magazine, carried an interview with Robert Glennon, author of a new book on national water issues.  In his book, Unquenchable: America’s Water Crisis and What to Do About It, Glennon writes that he expects the current water crisis in the West will eventually become a national crisis.  As evidence he points to Tennessee recently needing to bring water from Alabama and Lake Superior reaching such a low level that cargo ships were unable to access certain ports.

This is an interesting interview, and covers some very interesting points on water use around the country.  For example, even though overall water use is down nationwide, the fastest growing populations are in areas that are experiencing water issues.  Also interesting is how industry has been working to reduce water use and the success of companies such as Intel.  Take a few minutes and check out the interview

Rain Bird Wins Rose Parade Sweepstakes Trophy

We just wanted to pass along our congratulations to Rain Bird for winning the Sweepstakes Trophy at the Tournament of Roses Parade. Their float, "Mountaintop Majesty," featured a family of mountain gorillas in a setting inspired by the Virunga National Forest in the Democratic Republic of Congo. In keeping with the company's products and philosophy, the float included over 13,000 gallons of water used for waterfalls and mist. This marks the third year in a row that Rain Bird has won this trophy, which honors the most beautiful entry in the parade.
