Turn on the tap and the water comes out. Simple, right? But getting water from source to tap is much more invovled than just turning a handle. And with water conservation in the news these days, knowing the hows of water supply might help more people understand just how important it is.

An Article in the San Bernardino Sun gives the low-down on the Fontana Water Company and just what goes into providing water for its customers. For example, did you know that this one company alone provides billions of gallons of water a year to more than 160,000 residents through over 670 miles of pipeline?

Water Conservation Featured on Rose Parade Float

Water Conservation and environmental protection will once again be featured themes of Rain Bird's entry to the annual Tournament of Roses Parade on New Year's Day. Athletic Turf News reports that the float, which depicts an African mountain scene with a family of gorillas, will feature a series of waterfalls using 1500 gallons of recycled water. This is the company's 14th entry to the parade, all of which have used water in one way or another in order to highlight Rain Bird's philosophy of "The Intelligent Use of Water."

Using an entry into one of the most widely-watched parades on earth is a creative and, dare we say, intelligent way to promote wise water use. And using the No More Geysers riser is an intelligent and cost-effective way to do your part to protect this vital resource.

California Sends Delegation to Australia to Study Water Conservation

California taps Australia's expertise in coping with drought

The Press-Enterprise reports that California recently sent a group of 10 representatives to Australia to study how that country has dealt with its ongoing drought conditions. The Land Down Under has suffered through 13 years of the driest weather on record, as well as rising temperatures. The California delegation wanted to find out what Australians have been doing that could be used to deal with the state's ongoing water problems.

Measures such a rainwater tanks, dual-flush toilets, and desalination are common in Australia, and have helped to lower per-capita use to 40 gallons per day. Compare that to the estimated 200 gallons per person each day in California. Wendy Martin, drought coordinator at the Department of Water Resources noted that there was much that could be learned about water conservation.

Mendocino County Looking At Loans For Water Conservation and Energy Upgrades

Ukiah,CA  - Mendocino County is looking at ways to create a loan program for property owners to make the changes necessary for water and energy conservation. This seems like a good idea. At least the county is taking a pro-active attitude towards this concept.

According to The Ukiah DAILY JOURNAL...

Mendocino County Water Agency plans to use two applications for a shot at California Energy Commission money to start an AB 811 energy and water conservation funding program.

Each county has a different set of circumstances based on the infastructure of the county, property values that have to be considered. One thing is clear the need and implementation of products like No More Geysers is being taken quite seriously.

During the first five months of mandatory water conservation,single-family residential water customers used 23.2% less water when compared to the same time period in 2007, when Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa first called upon Angelenos to conserve water.  Results for all customer classes are as follows:
